Unblock Your Psychic Abilities
Why do I feel like my psychic abilities are blocked? First its important to realize that there is nothing wrong with you. And through my 25+ years as mentor in the psychic arts I have found that generally there are two major blocks that can put a plug in your psychic development. These blocks arise from fear and religious dogma.
Religious Dogma Blocks
So let take a look at each, first starting with religious dogma.
It was Wednesday a hot and humid day in May. I sat in catechism class quietly listening to Sister Nina share with us her perspectives about God. She spoke in a free and easy way that any seven-year-old understand. She made everything so fresh and relatable.
Sister Nina was quite different from the other nuns and Priests at our Parish. She was young and had a modern outlook on things. The kids in our class were enthralled listening to the stories she read to us from the Bible.
On this particular day I noticed a older man wearing blue overalls and a red baseball hat sitting in the chair beside her. I was curious at how he got into the class without me seeing or hearing him. He noticed that I was looking at him, gave me a warm smile, and then turned his attention back to Sister Nina.
After our story and receiving our lesson for the week, Sister Nina recited a brief prayer and then dismissed us. When I looked up, I noticed that the man was gone. I didn’t think much about it and made my way to the door.
Sister Nina called my name. “Dar, May I speak to you for a moment?” Sister Nina motioned for me to sit in an empty chair in front of her desk. She smiled.
“Describe the man you saw.”
“Oh, you mean the man in the overalls and red hat?” I asked. “Why?”
“The man you saw is my father. He died three years ago and apparently still loves to listen to me teach.”
She continued. “I can see him too. But it’s our secret though, ok? You have a beautiful gift that has been given to you to help others heal, and no matter what don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”
It is many years later since Sister Nina shared this advice with me. And I am forever grateful.
I’m not against traditional religion, I believe it has its place in modern society. But the past few decades, as science and spirituality begin to bridge the gap, much of what I was taught about psychic abilities and mediumship about being “wrong” has been proven otherwise.
A Powerful Question
A question that my first mentor in the psychic arts once asked me is appropriate to share here which is, “If God created you and I with intuitive abilities why is it wrong to use them?”
Religious dogma that your psychic abilities are either wrong or evil is a very common block when trying to develop these skills. What I find interesting, however, is that modern medical studies of the brain and how it works has proven that everyone has psychic abilities to some extent.
Using electrical probes neurosurgeons can stimulate different parts of the brain causing the patient to experience spontaneous psychic phenomenon. Test subjects were able to accurately provide the surgeon with his wife’s social security number, as well as to see the surgeons deceased mother in the room. And these are just a few of many documented examples.
Realizing that your psychic abilities are a natural part of your human make up is very freeing. Your brain is a wonderful and powerful ally when learning to tap into your psychic abilities. And the more you learn about how your mind works to enhance your ability to tune in, the more you are able to freely receive intuitive guidance.
Fear Blocks
The second thing that blocks your psychic abilities from fully opening up is fear. You can unblock your psychic ability rapidly when you discover any fears or hangups that are hindering your development. These fears come in many forms, such as fear of being weird, fear of not being able to shut off your abilities, etc. But the most common fear is that something evil will in some way cause you harm.
The source of fear is easy to discover. Generally, it’s a misunderstanding of the psychic arts, how they work, and what they’re about. Many times, people with this particular fear have associated psychic abilities with horror pictures from Hollywood. They mistakenly tie in their natural psychic abilities to demons and zombies.
One thing very important to note here is that there is a huge difference between using your psychic senses, and having paranormal experiences.
Here is one of my favorite and true examples of what a paranormal experience would look like:
Soon after World War II, Winston Churchill was visiting the White House when he is said to have had an uncanny experience. Having had a long bath with a Scotch and cigar, he reportedly walked into the adjoining bedroom – only to be met by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln.
Unflappable, even while completely naked, Churchill apparently announced: “Good evening, Mr. President. You seem to have me at a disadvantage.” The spirit smiled and vanished.
Paranormal experiences can be summed up to seeing and experiencing the unexplained. Such as a ghost or poltergeist activity and has nothing to do with developing your psychic abilities.
Psychic phenomenon is your ability to tune into your greater inner insight to receive impressions that will help and guide you.
Once again, your psychic abilities have more to do with learning how to work with your brain to access Altered States of consciousness.
We all sat in deep meditation in preparation for intuitive tarot class that I was teaching at my home. I taught the students a special breathing technique that is designed help the student to easily generate alpha brainwaves. About 10 minutes into the meditation one of the students jumped up and ran out of the room screaming.
This obviously broke the other students out of their meditative state, and even startling some. The woman was inconsolable, and kept saying over and over, “I knew this was a bad idea! Tarot is evil! Why did I agree to come?”
After digging a bit deeper to find out how she came to the belief that tarot cards were evil, she shared with the group that when she was a teenager, she watched a scary movie in which tarot cards opened up a portal to hell.
I calmed the group down and explained that tarot cards are just cards made out of paper, and in and of themselves have no power over anyone. Tarot cards are simply a tool to help someone tune into to their psychic knowing.
Shortly after explaining this the woman suddenly burst out laughing. She discovered that she wasn’t touched by some unseen force after all. The seam in her collar had become unraveled creating a tickling sensation on the back of her neck!
An Easy Way to Unblock Your Psychic Abilities
To unblock your psychic abilities, you have to unlock your fears and unproductive beliefs. Here is one technique I use with my psychic development classes which has been proven to be very effective.
First I have students write down everything they were ever taught or told about psychic powers and abilities from the time they were young to the present.
Next, we systematically, go through each one by one with conscious awareness in the present moment. As we do this I have the student share with me if they still believe what they wrote is true or not.
This generally does the trick and frees up the student’s ability to relax, and in so doing, give themselves permission unblock their psychic abilities as well as to develop and use their abilities in a fun and productive way.
